The 122-base lac regulatory region

Previous Previous Next Next
Description
The inverted repeat sequence in the CRP binding site is shaded inblue, and the palindromic areas of the operator are shaded in pink.

The binding sites for all three proteins (CRP, repressor, and RNA polymerase), as determined by DNase I footprinting, are boxed.

The sequence changes encountered in promoter and operator mutations are shown, as well as the start codon for the lacZ protein (z gene) and the stop codon for repressor protein (i gene).
Nucleotides are numbered from 0 at the lac transcriptional start point (the first mRNA nucleotide is +1).
