Priam Painter: Women at a Fountain House

A mathematical concept of urban development based on the orthogonal (grid) plan was implemented as early as the eighth century BCE.
Hippodamos of Miletos envisioned a plot consisting of a square 600 feet on each side and divided into quarters. This is still in use in American and European cities and suburbs.

The Priam Painter recorded the event of women's daily trip to the fountain house, significant because most women in ancient Greece were confined to their homes.
The building in which they are depicted is designed like a stoa and is supported by Doric columns.
