Old Woman

Description
Roman 1st century CE copy of a Greek work of the 2nd century BCE. Marble, height 49-1/2" (1.25 m).

Old woman
Hellenistic sculpture saw a rise in representation of ordinary and unusual people as subjects.

This figure has traditionally been seen as an aged woman on her way to the agora, but can be interpreted as a follower of Dionysos on her way to a religious festival.
