Hierarchy of scientific evidence

Scientists test ideas by critically examining evidence:

1. Scientists use the scientific method to design tests
2. Scientific method is a theme with variations:
- Active, creative, imaginative process
- Scientists from different fields approach work differently

3. Scientific Method relies on the following assumptions:
- The universe works according to unchanging natural laws
- Events arise from causes, and cause other events
- We use our senses and reason to understand nature’s laws

For Example:
- Make observations
- Asks questions of some phenomenon
-  Develop a hypothesis
- The hypothesis is used to generate predictions which can be tested
- The test results either support or reject the hypothesis
