Neuroglia

Description
FUNCTIONS
1. Astrocytes help maintain the appropriate chemical environment around neurons for the generation of action potentials.
2. Oligodendrocytes form a supporting network and produce myelin sheaths around central nervous system neurons.
3. Microglia originate from white blood cells and protect central nervous system cells from disease via phagocytosis.
4. Ependymal cells form cerebrospinal fluid and aid in its circulation.
5. Schwann cells produce part of the myelin sheath around the axon of a peripheral nervous system neuron.
6.Satellite cells support the neurons in the peripheral nervous system ganglia.
