The age-adjusted rate of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer, from 1973 to 2000. Over that time period, the rate (expressed as cases per 100,000 individuals) rose from about 7 to about 17.5, an increase of 250%. Since 2000, the rate has continued to climb.
