Fluid mosaic model

Description
The basic framework of a plasma membrane is a phospholipid bilayer. Proteins may span the membrane and may be bound on the surface to other proteins or to lipids. Proteins and lipids, which have covalently bound carbohydrate, are called glycoproteins and glycolipids.
