Moss

Description
The common moss genus Mnium has leafy green gametophytes (an asexually produced structure that generates gametes) and unbranched, dependent sporophytes, each bearing a spore-producing sporangium at its tip. When mature, these sporangia release spores. Inset: this SEM shows that the tips of moss sporangia are often specialized so that spores are sprinkled into the wind, rather than being released all at once.
