Clients with eating disorders are difficult clients with whom to work. They are often described as rigid and perfectionistic. Many have other Axis I and Axis II diagnoses, making their care highly complex. Some are manipulative. Most resist treatment one way or another. They require that the nurse maintain boundaries in the relationship, understand herself or himself, and be able to deal with frustration. Autodiagnosis by the nurse is essential. Unrecognized negative feelings toward the client will negatively affect care. The other options are either inappropriate or less important than autodiagnosis. |
