Title: Cancer cells metastasize due to a variety of interactions with cell adhesions, c Post by: colleen on Dec 18, 2011 Cancer cells metastasize due to a variety of interactions with cell adhesions, cell junctions, and the extracellular matrix. Explain how cancer cells metastasize by three different mechanisms via cellular adhesion, cell junctions, and the extracellular matrix.
Title: Re: Cancer cells metastasize due to a variety of interactions with cell adhesions, c Post by: lewis on Jan 10, 2012 There are a variety of causes for cancer cell metastasis. However, in keeping with the theme of this chapter, answers may include the following: the cells stop producing E-cadherin or other cadherins; an increase in MMP activity; an increased ability to bind the basal lamina; the inability to synthesize fibronectins, resulting in a loss of shape and detachment from the ECM; focal adhesion unresponsiveness beta-catenin function in the Wnt signalling pathway associated with cancer; etc.
