What are the assumptions of the zipper model for helix-coil transitions in polypeptides? What is meant by cooperativity when describing the helix-coil conformational change?

What will be an ideal response?

The assumptions are that (i) each segment in a polypeptide exists in either the c or h configuration, and (ii) that all helical segments are arranged contiguously. Cooperativity when describing the helix-coil conformational change implies that the transition from coil to helix occurs without a significant population of intermediate structural states.
