Although intuitively, this may be perceived as a “good thing,” in fact, it raises a host of problems for the charged individual. A record of arrest remains on one’s formal criminal history, and can adversely impact the individual’s ability to seek employment in certain occupations, as well as student loans, college enrollment, and firearms permits, among other things. Barring a pardon, the arrest record remains with the individual indefinitely, which is deeply problematic.
