Besides simply knowing the policies, students should be aware that being absent or tardy is not only a matter of their externship grade or school policy but also a huge factor in how professional their site supervising staff will see them. A one-time occurrence in the entire externship of a late day or an absent day with proper notification will not usually affect the site manager/staff's view of the extern, but habitual late days and no-shows are unacceptable.
