What are species richness and species evenness? How does each of these components of species diversity contribute to the value of the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H')? How do species evenness and richness influence the form of rank abundance curves?

Species richness is the number of species in a community. Species evenness is the relative abundance of species in a community. The value of the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') increases directly with both species richness and species evenness. Greater species richness increases the length of rank abundance curves (X axis). Greater species evenness reduces the slope of rank abundance curves.
