How was Catholic John F. Kerry’s stance on abortion a factor in his 2004 run for President?

A) Catholics tend not to vote.
B) It lost Kerry many Catholic votes.
C) It won Kerry many Catholic votes.
D) It had little to no impact via Catholic voters, who tend to vote as actively as other sectors of the public.

This is for my political science class.
