A veterinary technician, or animal health technician, is a graduate of a two- or three-year AVMA-accredited program in veterinary technology. The veterinary technician performs under the direction, supervision, and responsibility of the veterinarian and is not allowed to diagnose, prescribe, or perform surgery unless permitted by state regulations.
A veterinary technologist is a graduate of an AVMA-accredited four-year baccalaureate program in veterinary technology.
