Response: The nurse needs to remind the mother that preschoolers do not completely understand the concept of death or its permanence. Telling the mother that it is best to ignore the boy's questions or that the boy will eventually figure this out on his own does not teach. Repeating that the grandfather is not coming back does not consider the developmental stage of the child and is inappropriate. |
