Bacterial resistance does not develop to benzoyl peroxide. The irritant effect of the drug also causes vasodilation and increased blood flow, which may hasten resolution of the inflammatory lesions. Although Accutane, low-dose tetracycline, and Retin-A are often used to treat severe acne, these drugs should not be given to those who are pregnant because they can affect the development of the fetus. |
