Title: Speciation by Changes in Ploidy
Post by: tama401 on Feb 3, 2011
What would be the ploidy of the viable gametes produced by a tetraploid individual if nondisjunction of all chromosomes occurred in meiosis I?

   Diploid
   Triploid
   Tetraploid
   Haploid

How can an allopolyploid plant become a biologically fit new species?

   Synapsis of homologous chromosomes
   Nondisjunction event during meiosis
Allopolyploid plants cannot become biologically fit new species; they are always sterile.
   Nondisjunction event during mitosis

How many chromosomes would be found in an allopolyploid plant if its parents had diploid numbers of 2 and 10, respectively?

   Diploid number of 6
   Haploid number of 6
   Haploid number of 12
   Diploid number of 12

1st question, I'm guessing Tetraploid because nondisjunction is an error in meiosis or mitosis in which members of a pair of homologous chromosomes or a pair of sister chromatids fail to separate properly from each other.

2nd question, I'm guessing...

Nondisjunction event during meiosis

and for the 3rd question:

I'm guessing

Diploid number of 12

What textbook are you using, I can always double check!
