- Arteries: carry blood away from the heart and toward capillary beds; arteries to lungs carry deoxygenated blood; arteries to body carry oxygenated blood
- Capillaries: blood enters capillaries from arteries; sites where oxygen and nutrients are delivered and wastes are picked up
- Veins: receive blood from capillaries; carry blood back to the heart; veins from body carry deoxygenated blood and veins from lungs carry oxygenated blood
