How to find out the mass  of an element in a  compound for example has a 48 g
Question : 48g of Fe2CO3

What I'd do is find the molar mass of the entire molecule.

Iron...Fe   111.69 g/mol
Carbon...C   12.0107 g/mol
Oxygen...O   47.9982 g/mol

Fe2CO3 = 171.6907 g / mol
Take the mass, then divide it by this number to get the moles.

Now set up a ratio:

Moles of oxygen (3) to 1 molecule of Fe2CO3, and use that to find the mass of oxygen
