Bacteriophages are used as vectors in genetic engineering to insert new genes into bacteria. Describe the process that makes this genetic recombination possible.

Bacteriophages are viruses that attach to cell membranes and integrate DNA (genes)into host cells, which give it the strengths of the disease sharing the DNA (transduction). During genetic engineering, scientists combine genes from different sources and transfer the recombinant DNA into cells where it is expressed and replicated. Scientists do this by splicing the recombinant DNA into the bacteriophage's DNA. The bacteriophages then carry out transduction.
