1) The density of diamond is 3.51 g/cm^3 and the density of platinum is 21.43g/cm^3. If equal masses of diamond and platinum are transferred to equal volumes of water in separate graduated cylinders, which graduated cylinder would have the greatest volume change? Explain or show with a sample calculation.

2) The mass of a beaker is 5.333g. After 5.00mL of a concentrated hydrochloric acid solution is pipited into the beaker, the combined mass of the beaker and the hydrochloric acid sample is 11.229g. From the data, what is the measured density of the hydrochloric acid solution?

The mass of a beaker is 5.333g. after 5.00ml of spearmint oil is pipetted into the beaker and the spearmint oil sample is 9.962g. from the data, what is the measured denssity of spearmint oil?

the formula for density is D=m/V

To get the mass of the Oil subtract the mass of the beaker 9.962g-5.333g = 4.629g

4.629/5mL = .9258 g/mL (g/cm^3)

The density of aluminum is 2.70 gm/cm3 The density of chromium is 7.19 gm/cm3. If equal masses of aluminum and chromium are added to equal volumes of water in separate graduated cylinder which graduated cylinder would have the greatest change in volume. Explain.

If you consider density to be the measure of the mass of a substance in a unit of volume then you can imagine that the denser a substance is then the less volume a given mass will take up.
In this case Chromium is much denser than Aluminium so equal mass of Chromium occupies a much smaller volume than Aluminium. The Aluminium will cause a greater change in volume.

The equation is Density = Mass / Volume

or Volume = Mass/ Density
So if Density goes up volume comes down (for equal masses).
