HOW DO YOU KNOW if this is combustion, synthesis, decomposition, etc? How do you figure it out?

This looks like a double displacement reaction to me.  Think of it as two couples go to a dance and then they trade partners.  The metals (potassium and cobalt) trade places.
1. write out the names of the products
2. write the skeleton equation (the symbols)
3. balance the equation
4. you could look up the solubility of the products to see if a solid is formed (you could do this after the second step. if there is no solid then there's no reaction that takes place and you don't have to figure anything out)
