Title: I'm hoping to go to medical school but I'm wondering what undergraduate major would be best...any suggestions? Post by: firegirl2012 on Jun 20, 2011 I would like to get a bachelors in nursing, plus take all the pre reqs needed for med school, so I can work while in medical school, and then eventually become a doctor. However, I've heard it's better to pursue an undergraduate degree in science...would there really be a difference as far as what qualifies me for med school?

Post by: lgault109 on Jun 20, 2011 Nursing and premed don't have a lot of (if any) overlap, so it won't save you any time like a bio or chem major would. And you wouldn't ever end up working as a nurse if you did go to med school, since both nursing and med school are more-than full-time jobs by themselves. So it might just be a waste of time.

Nursing school is really geared for nurses, so it wouldn't do a whole lot of good. Biology is the most common, but chemistry would also work. Also check with your school about an interdisciplinary degree that has free electives where you can take premed classes (such as general engineering, etc.)
