Sandy and Isabel have just adopted a newborn male child. They had no trouble agreeing on a name (Jonas Jordan), but they can't seem to agree whether or not he should be circumcised. Sandy thinks he should be, whereas Isabel thinks he shouldn't be. List two arguments Sandy might make in favor of circumcision and two arguments Isabel might make against circumcision.

Answers in favor of circumcision: (any two of the following)
1. There are religious or cultural reasons, especially in Jewish and Muslim cultures.
2. A son's penis should look the same as his father's.
3. Genital hygiene will be easier.
4. There is a lower risk of urinary tract infections during infancy.
5. There is a lower risk of foreskin infections.

Answers against circumcision: (any two of the following)
1. Jonas may experience pain during the surgery.
2. Jonas may experience infection or improper healing from the surgery.
3. The foreskin is needed for reasons of identity or culture.
4. The foreskin is needed for reasons of maximum sexual pleasure.
