Title: What is a natural, home made remedy and cure for an ear infection in dogs?
Post by: mikejones123 on Aug 23, 2012
My 17 week old bichon frise had an ear infection about 3 weeks ago. we took him to the vet and the vet gave us an antibiotic, which seemed to make the infection go away for a while. but now i think its back, which means that the antibiotic did not really work. I need a homemade remedy that can cure and prevent it. Thanks :]
And could you include directions on how to put it in his ear? thanks sooo much :]

Did you give the entire course of antibiotics as prescribed?

Without knowing what the cause of the infection IS, there's no way anyone on here can tell you how to cure it.

there isn't a natural cure.  go back to your vet and have the ears rechecked!

The antibiotics worked if the ear infection went away.  It is coming back because there in an underlying cause.  Take the dog back to the vet

There are no "homemade remedies" that kill infections.

What happened is either you did not finish the course of antibiotics as they were prescribed.
Or this is a new infection..
Or the dog needs a different antibiotic/medication.

Go back to the vet and let him know it came back. He will know what to do. Don't attempt homemade remedies they probably won't work.

my pom has an ear infection too well had and now hes better and no sign of ear infection.
from my knowledge i dont think that there is any homemade remedy for an ear infection, you have to constantly keep giving your bichon the antibiotic until the vet tells you to stop.
its like human antibiotic, if you think ur pup is getting better and you stop giving him a.b. when your suppose to then the infection is gonna come back and be even stronger because it knows how to fight the ear infection.
so just give him the anitbiotic, hope this helps!

Check out homeopathic remedies from the health food store such as Pulsatilla. There are also combination remedy products for ear infections in dogs available, sometimes in health food stores or specialty holistic pet stores or online.

If the infection came back, it means it's a different infection, the medicine didn't work, or there is something else wrong.

There's nothing to be done for him at home.

You try to put alchol into infected ears, don't be surprised when the dog bites you.  Alchol stings and the sweetest dog will turn on you in it's pain.

You need to go back to the vet for more meds.  Insist they clean out his ears, and look at the "gunk" under the microscope.  That's the only way they can tell what the problem is, and what medicine to give.

After you've followed the vets instructions, and give ALL the medicine, consider home remedies to keep him healthy.
~Keep his ears dry.  There are powders you can put in his ears after a bath that will dry up any water that got in there by mistake.  Discourage other pets from playfully chewing ears.  Saliva has germs that happily grow in ears.
~Feed all natural food that has no corn, wheat, or soy.  Dogs are sensitive to these ingredients, which causes the immune system to slow down and let infection take hold.
~Clean his ears.  Use gauze and ear cleaner to keep them fresh and clean.

Good luck.

U need to know what the cause is first.
Mites need a semi-dry environment, so U can kill them with an over-the-counter coal-tar based product, or put in olive oil and rub in thoroughly until completely cleared up. This could take many days depending on what is really going on with the ear. That is why it is important to know exact cause of problem.
Also for mites there are products U can buy at the feed store that work well. Keep on top of this. U do not want to have apup that gets chronic ear infections.
Did the vet tell U what caused the ear infection? Allergies? Mites?

Most likely your dog has an ear infection, ear mites, or both. Depending on where you live and the type of dog you have this may be very common and frequent throughout the dog?s life. Ear infections can be caused by a number of factors, anything from high humidity to poor nutrition, ear mites usually come from the ground a dog plays, or sleeps in, (ear mites are common in dogs that live around livestock). Both ailments are easy to treat at home and easy to prevent. Make a solution following this formula: One part white distilled vinegar, one part isopropyl alcohol, and one part hydrogen peroxide. DO NOT LET THE DOG DRINK THIS! FOR USE IN THE EAR CANAL ONLY! Mix them together and put the mixture in a bottle that has a rounded tip on it so it can be slightly inserted into the dog?s ear canal, (a dog?s ear canal is very deep compared to human?s) gently flood the ear canal and the outer ear with the liquid, use a clean towel to wipe away liquid that runs out of the ear and then let the dog shake to dry it?s ear. Do this 4 to 6 times a day for two days and then 3 to 4 times a day for five days and after the seven days is over your dog should have clean and pretty ears. If your dog is prone to re-infection I would consider improving his diet, if your dog is getting ear mites from his surroundings, then you can simply re-treat with the afore mentioned solution. If after seven days of the prescribed treatment the dog shows no improvement in his condition then take him to the vet. A good nutritional supplement that you can add to any type of dog food is ?Dinovite?. I have used this in the past on dogs with re-occurring ear infections and it works wonders for preventing infection and maintaining general overall health. www.dinovite.com

No natural remedy will get rid of an ear infection in dogs or humans! You can ease the discomfort with olive oil and stuff like that but he needs an antibiotic. You said he already had one, might need it for a little longer period to get rid of it. And unfortunatly there is no way of preventing the ear infections.

Your dog may just be immune to that antibiotic and needs something stronger.

here is something I came across

Remedies for infected ear
Put few drops of garlic juice into the infected ear. Use blow dryer from about 12 to 15 inches from your head, this will remove any water trapped in the Eustachian tube. Put some olive oil on the warm spoon; put 2 to 3 drops of this in each ear. Put few drops of lobelia extract into the infected ear and rub it gently. Wash your ear using colloidal silver, it is a natural antibiotic. Slightly warm one teaspoon of juice of the mango leaf and put it into the infected ear drop by drop.

Ear infection : Other Home Remedies suggestions
Take Vitamin C and increase zinc intake
Take vitamin C to boost your immune system, it will help you to combat infection. Increase Zinc intake, it reduces ear infection. Eat a healthy diet with lots of calcium in it. Avoid processed foods and hydrogenated oils. Stress on breast feeding for infection in infants.

Other suggestions for ear infection
Avoid going in front of any one smoking because cigarette smoke can block Eustachian tubes. Avoid accompanying people suffering from cold. Wash your hands regularly. Avoid touching nose and eyes.

Ear infections are caused by any number of problems , as with children, puppies   can be prone and certain breeds more then others INFECTION  is caused by something foreign  in the ear canal in this case and it may be mites might be just wax build up, or some other irritation like dirt, floppy ears and water typically are most due  for these problems..  Antibiotics are not  prescribed like candy or aspirin if the course ( twice a day for 10 days or?) may or may not work, if after the first visit the dog visits a mite area, guess what, reinfection, and return of symptoms and problems..its possible your refusal to get the dog to the vet could  cause permanent hearing loss,  IF you care about the dog at all CALL THE VET its not that hard
