Lytic-  the virus reproduces so much the cell explodes, releasing the virus so it can affect other cells.

Lysogenic-  Virus is integrated into host genome.  Slowly replicates and buds from plasma membrane.  Can lay dormant in this stage for years and then transform into lytic phase because of various stressors or unknown reasons.
