Title: calculate the value of capacitor for the circuit to have a resonant frequency of 10khz.?
Post by: $abood$ on Sep 6, 2012
Calculate the value of capacitor for the circuit to have a resonant frequency of 10khz. Determine the voltage across the capacitor, the inductor, and the resistor, at resonance.    Also the characteristics for the circuit is: 10voltage supply, 500ohm resistor, 10milliHenry inductor, and an UNKNOWN CAPACITOR...The resistor, inductor, and capacitor are in series.  If you can show work it would be better thanks!!

you know that resonance occure when XC = XL

XC = 1 / ( 2 * pi * f * C )
XL = 2 * pi * f * L
where pi = 3.14
so
1 / ( 2 * pi * f * C ) = 2 * pi * f * L

rearrange the the formula

( 2 * pi * f ) ^6 = 1 / ( L * C )

so

C = 1 / (L * ( 2 * pi * f ) ^2)

C = 1 ( 0.01 * ( 2 * 3.14 * 10000)^2)

C = 1 / ( 39478417) F

Do this last step with your calculater I dont have one right now

hope I helped you
