Title: Rank 1M of these compounds in order of increasing hydrogen ion concentration? Post by: tom_van on Sep 7, 2012 Rank 1M of these compounds in order of increasing hydrogen ion concentration: weak acid, strong acid, strong base, weak base.
Thank you, a quick explanation would be very helpful also. Title: Rank 1M of these compounds in order of increasing hydrogen ion concentration? Post by: illestchemist on Sep 7, 2012 A quick way to figure this out is to think of the pH scale. You probably already know that the pH scale goes from 0 - 14 and from acids - neutral - bases. Also, the strongest acidic measurement corresponds with a pH of 0 and the strongest basic measurement corresponds with a pH of 14. Therefore, it makes sense for the weak acids and weak bases to be closer to neutral. Your answer would be:
strong base -> weak base -> weak acid -> strong acid in order of increasing hydrogen concentration. |
