Title: creating a map of three linked genes
Post by: confused_student on Oct 3, 2010
On chromosome #2 of the fruit fly there are three linked genes: vestigial, black, brown or bl-vg-br.  The genes are in that order.  In my parental cross a vestigial black brown fly is mated with a wild type fly.  All F1 are wild type.  The F2 are the following:
1675 +++
23 bl vg br
176 bl ++
13 + vg br
57 ++ br
52 bl vg +
93 + vg +
17 bl + br
Based on this data, could you help me construct a map of the genes?  Thank you so much for any help.

So the F1 are all WT:

Beige (bl+) [Body Colour],
Long(vg+) [Wing length],
Brick red (br+) [eye colour].

The mutant is:

Black (bl),
Vestigal(vg),
brown (br)

According to the F2 results, 1675 will be WT, 23 will all be mutant, 176 will be beige, vestigal, brown, so on and so forth.

Hm, I kind of forgot how to do this, what textbook are you using? I could probably look up the solutions...
