Title: What is the total pressure in the flask once the limiting reactant is completely consumed?
Post by: tommyt_ on Sep 15, 2012
Assume a constant temperature and volume and a 100% reaction yield.

Consider the following reaction:
2 SO2 (g) +O2 (g)  => 2 SO3 (g) A reaction flask initially contains 1.0 atm of SO2 and 1.0 atm of O2.

SO2 is the limitng reactant : 2.0 atm are needed

O2 is in excess

pressure O2 = 1.0/2 = 0.5
pressure SO3 = 1.0
total pressure = 1.0 + 0.5 = 1.5 atm
