Title: How can I make an acid-base experiment (baking soda+Vinegar) but with stronger chemicals? Post by: RJ on Sep 20, 2012 Drain (the solid type with the aluminum turnings removed) is lye, or Sodium hydroxide. This is a very strong and caustic base.
Lead-Acid storage batteries contain Sulfuric acid. This is a very strong mineral acid. Be very cautious with these chemicals. These are not toys. Either can "burn a hole" or remove patches of skin. When mixed directly together, the reaction is so vigorous that the solution will often boil due to the heat generated. Wear protective clothing and goggles. I suggest starting with very small scale experiments in an area which is easy to clean. Keep appropriate first aid close.
