Glycogen is part of the body`s internal energy source. Thus, it is only used when necessary and its decomposition needs to be done at urgent rates. Hence, a complex of enzymes gets involved in the catabolic process. Contrary to that, amylose will act on its own. It also gets activated when an external energy source is present.
