metabolism is when you are super skinny and eat a lot and dont gain weight

Metabolism in its most simplest term means all the reactions that occur within an organism.

Catabolism are pathways that breakdown large macromolecules into its individual components (proteins into amino acids) polysaccharides into monosaccharides, Fats into fatty acids.

Catabolism and another term anabolism are subsets of metabolism (two types of reactions that occur in an organism).

Usually catabolic pathways release energy like ATP or something.
