Evidence of pediculosis capitis includes white sacs (nits) that are attached to the hair shafts, frequently in the occiput area. Lesions may be present from itching, but the positive sign is evidence of nits. Lice and nits must be distinguished from dandruff, which appears as white, flaky particles.
