Title: Could you help me find an alternative picture for plasma membrane?
Post by: smmunday on Dec 12, 2012
I cant use the actual picture of the plasma membrane itself.
Example for Nucleus could be a brain, Ribosomes could be protein or a chef.
Well could you please give me some ideas on Plasma Membrane?

A plasma membrane is comparable to a wall, with some doors that only open up to let certain molecules through.  Or you could compare it to skin. Or to a pillow case. You should pick something that shows that it is a protective layer around the cell.

Hope that this gives you some ideas....!

The plasma membrane is like a chain-link fence with several gates in it.  The chain-link fence has small opening that would only allow certain sized things through it, which is like the selectively permeable plasma membrane.  The gates in the chain-linked fence would be analogous to membrane proteins that help transport larger substances by facilitated diffusion or active transport.
