1 -- Advantages to outpatient surgery include a reduced risk of hospital-acquired infections. The patient may or may not have home care for postoperative care in the home. There is no evidence to suggest that patients who have outpatient surgery use fewer postoperative medications. Inadequate staffing on the surgical care areas would be inappropriate to say to the patient.
