Title: What is the mathematical relationship between distance and gravity?
Post by: Tontin on Jan 1, 2013
ie - how does gravity change as you get further away from a planet?
eg - if you double the distance what happens to gravity?

the force of gravity varies as 1/r^2, so if you double your distance from the center of the earth, the force of gravity will be 1/4 of that on the surface.

the relation b/w gravity and distance is inversely proportional to the square of d i.e.

g inversely proportional 1/d^2

if the distance doubled then gravity will decrease 4 times
