Title: What's the difference between molar mass and atomic mass?
Post by: Tonbon1221 on Jan 6, 2013
How do you find the atomic mass from the molar mass? And if I'm calculating the most probable speed for aluminium using the equation vmp=sqrt(2kT/m), is m then supposed to be the molar mass or the atomic mass of aluminium?

i believe its the same thing.....

molecular weight/mass = atomic weight/mass = molar mass/weight

If you're counting moles of atoms, it's the same thing.  If you're counting moles of something else (like a molecule), then it's not an "atomic" mass any longer, it's a molecular mass.

So what's your gas?  Is it monatomic Al?  If not, you need the mass of the particles.  So it's the molar mass of the object.
