Title: What is the atomic number of the yet undiscovered element in which the 8s and 8p electron energy levels fill?
Post by: toney on Jan 6, 2013
Don't have any idea how to do this. Never went over it.

What is the atomic number of the as yet undiscovered element in which the 8s and 8p electron energy levels fill?

Predict the chemical behavior of this element.

Element 118 will have just filled it's 7p orbitals, therefore the predicted element to fill completely up to its 8p orbital would have to have filled a whole set of s, p, d, f and g orbitals.

That's another 2 + 6 + 10 + 14 + 18 = 50 electrons.

118 + 50 = 168

So the element would have atomic number 168.
