equation has equal sign and has left and right sides eg. y^2+y=4
espression is just a group of monomials with no equal sign
eg . y^2+4

An expression is basically

2x^2 + 2x + 2

An EQUATION, has an equality in it.

2x + 3= 2

the = sign makes it an equation.

If there is no = sign, it's just an expression

For instance 2x + 3 alone is an expression, but if you add the = 2, it becomes an equation.

An expression involves variables and terms, but one can NOT solve for a variable in an expression.

Example of an expression is
x+3

An equation involves an equal sign and thus one can solve for a variable in an equation.

Example of an equation is:
x+3 = 6

See the difference.

Very important concept to grasp, but it is very simple...
