Carol is in a railroad car on a train moving west along a straight stretch of track at a constant speed of 120 km/h while Charles is in a railroad car on a train at rest in a siding alongside the same stretch of track. Both cars have all the blinds pulled down. As Carol's train passes Charles' train, both people drop a pencil from shoulder height to the floor. What does each person see?

(a)   Both Carol and Charles see their pencils falling precisely downward in a vertical direction.
(b)   Charles sees his pencil fall straight down, but Carol sees her pencil move towards the back of the railroad car at 120 km/h as it falls.
(c)   Charles sees his pencil fall straight down, while Carol sees her pencil fall in a direction inclined at a small angle to the vertical towards the back of the train because of its motion.
