second question: Yes. Speed is just a number, whereas velocity has a direction too. So if something is going around in a circle, it has a constant speed but its velocity is changing. Post by: nursing1 on Feb 4, 2013 To the first question: Not for long. Acceleration is change in velocity, so even if velocity is zero at some point, if acceleration is not zero, it has to change. So there can be a momentary condition of zero velocity and finite acceleration
Velocity is a vector and speed is a scalar. Speed is the magnitude of the velocity vector. The magnitude of a vector (speed) can be constant, but the vector can change (direction).
