Title: AMPHIBOLIC PATHWAYS! I answered my other posted questions, i need HELP!
Post by: awluxllc on Feb 20, 2013
Many Biochemical pathways operate in both catabolic and anabolic modes.  DESCRIBE the benefits and costs (in other words, the good and the bad) for the bacteria that operate these AMPHIBOLIC pathways.

What i have so far is:
----It allows synthesis or degradationn depending on the cells needs
----to minimize the wasting of energy

OKAY - Amphibolic pathway is a metabolic pathway used in both catabolism and anabolism. TCA cycle, for example, acts as an amphibolic pathway since it is involved in both breakdown as well as synthesis of biomolecules. The only other thing that comes to mind is that they are better regulated via positive and negative feedback mechanisms because the product of one reaction serves as the determinant of the opposite reaction. Not sure :s Hope someone else can chime in.
