In the leaves of the canopy photosynthesis occurs using chlorophyll to convert water and nutrients into sugar. The sugar is distributed back down through the phloem tubules to feed the plant cells. All higher plants, angiosperms and conifers, have xylem and phloem in them, although the xylem and phloem are situated differently between the two.
