A. In parallel.
B. In series
C. It depends on whether the souce current is AC or DC.
D.  Either series or parallel--it doesn't matter.

Do yourself a favor--call an electrician.

in series so when it breaks the current is interrupted

Series.   The whole point of such a device is to open (break) the circuit, effectively shutting down the circuit when the designated safe current level is exceeded.   With luck, that happens before the excess current has a chance to destroy anything.

If you put the breaker in parallel with the load, it may as well not be there.   Even if the fuse or breaker goes off, the circuit remains complete, and will keep going at this elevated current level until the whole thing fries.
