Two of the genes that Mendel studied were actually on the same chromosome. All of his genes showed independent assortment. How could this be?
Answer
a.The two genes were really on different chromosomes.
b.Closely linked genes can still have independent assortment.
c.The two genes were more than 50 map units apart and so appeared to assort independently.
d.Mendel must have used stocks that didn't have crossing over (recombination).
 e.None of the above.

So far as I know, Mendel studied seven traits, each one on a different one of the seven chromosomes of the pea plant. The odds are very much against this happening randomly. Can you say "cherry-picking", boys and girls?
