Describe how medicines called “calcium channel blockers” are used to treat patients and why? Calcium channel blockers reduce the force of contraction of the heart which would decrease blood pressure. Additionally, calcium channel blockers reduce the amount of calcium that flows into vascular smooth muscle which in turn lowers vasomotor tone and decreases peripheral resistance.
