Between 1450 and 1850 over 12 million slaves shipped from Africa; 80 percent shipped during 18th century; from 1530 to 1650 most slaves shipped to Latin American mainland; after 1650 Caribbean plantation islands and southern British Atlantic colonies also became important; in 16th century most slaves came from
Sengambia, in 17th century from west and central Africa; in 18th century from interior states of Asante and Dahomey.
